Bob Brubaker
Bob has completed 15 Ironman triathlons, including Ironman Hawaii twice. Bob is known to many in the triathlon community and beyond as the "SPAMMAN" as he was sponsored by SPAM from 1999 through 2001. Bob is best known as the man who finished Ironman Arizona, 2007 just two years from being one breath from death in a hospital in Denver, CO. Bob was dying from a pseudomonas bacterial infection and was sent to National Jewish Medical Center in Denver for help. While there, Bob's lung collapsed after a lung biopsy. Bob nearly died through the experience and spent ten days in I.C.U. Finally it was discovered that Bob has a rare lung disease and he was sent home with a long treatment plan. Nine months later Bob and Jan finished the Disney World marathon together proclaiming, "Look what God can do." These same words were heard last April at the finish line of Ironman Arizona as Lincoln Murdoch informed Mike Reilly, the race announcer, of Bob's story who then told it to the crowd as Bob finished - going from one breath from death, through a long recovery on oxygen, antibiotics, and a host of other medicines, to finishing Ironman Arizona in two years - "look what God can do!" Bob's story has been followed by people throughout the world and used as an encouragement for many who are enduring difficulty. (See www.bobbrubaker.com for details.) Bob brings the connection of an endurance athlete, a person who has endured the difficulty of life, and the encouragement of ministry from God's Word to those who are endeavoring to endure in the race of life. |
